Until the match between Nigeria and Morocco, the Super Eagles had been unbeaten for much of AFCON 2025.
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has been following the tournament closely, not just as a fan but also as a high-stakes bettor, and his journey with the national team has been a rollercoaster of wins, losses, and huge sums of money.
A Winning Start Against Tanzania

Davido kicked off his AFCON betting with Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania on December 23, 2025, at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco.
He placed a $25,000 (around ₦36 million) wager, predicting that both teams would score. If his prediction came true, he stood to win $96,564 (roughly ₦140 million). This bet paid off, giving him an early victory in his high-stakes AFCON betting adventure.
The Morocco Semi-Final Loss

Davido’s confidence soared ahead of Nigeria’s high-profile semi-final against Morocco on January 14. Hours before kickoff, he shared his betting slip on X, revealing a $50,000 (about ₦75 million) wager.
His parlay required Nigeria to win within 90 minutes, both teams to score, and the match to feature over 1.5 goals. A successful bet could have earned him more than $348,000 (roughly ₦522 million).
Unfortunately for Davido, the match ended 0-0 in regulation time, and Nigeria lost 4-2 on penalties. None of his predictions were met, leaving him with a significant loss.
Moments after the defeat, Davido shared a picture of himself enjoying a luxury meal. Despite the financial blow, he didn’t stick around for the third-place playoffs and was seen on his private jet leaving the host nation.

Other Celebrities Who Bet on the Super Eagles
Davido was not alone in backing the team. Popular Nigerian TikToker Peller lost $3,000 on Nigeria winning in 90 minutes. During a livestream on Wednesday night, he crashed out, saying:
“Thank you, Super Eagles, for playing very well. I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well in previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match. Maybe if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again.”
Afrobeats star, Joeboy also placed a ₦5 million bet on Nigeria defeating host nation Morocco. He shared his wager on social media, expressing full confidence in the team, but they lost.
The Super Eagles’ semi-final exit not only ended Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 dream but also turned celebrity high-stakes betting into a costly affair.
As fans look forward to the next tournament, the drama off the pitch continues to capture as much attention as the action on it.
