Veteran actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has urged Nigerians to pair criticism with practical solutions.
RMD spoke at Pivot Nigeria Conference in Lagos on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. The conference used the theme “The Reputation Dividend: Who Pays for Nigeria’s Perception?”
The conference is an annual event that is focused on the National image, reputation agenda, and national narrative. 
RMD took the opportunity at this conference to address the citizens’ of Nigeria. He said Nigerians should acknowledge the country’s problems and help solve them.
The News Agency of Nigeria quoted him as saying:
“There are problems but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and then proffer no solution.”
The veteran actor also asked citizens to hold political leaders accountable and take part in governance. He said each Nigerian represents the country through their conduct at home and abroad.
“You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents or your school, but ultimately for your country,” he said.
RMD described Nigeria as a work in progress. He urged citizens to remain patient while contributing to its development.
He cited Nollywood, Afrobeats, fashion, technology, entrepreneurship, sports, and literature as areas shaping Nigeria’s international reputation.
The conference brought together figures from the creative, media and communications sectors. They discussed Nigeria’s image, national narratives and reputation’s effect on citizens, businesses and opportunities.
Victoria Uwadoka convened the event. She said Pivot Nigeria examines how Nigerians see themselves and how their actions shape the country’s image.
Uwadoka said citizens, institutions, businesses, the media and government must help build trust. She urged the government to support that work with effective policies and infrastructure.
She also asked Nigerians to tell balanced stories about the country. Those stories should acknowledge its problems and recognise its achievements.
