The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has conducted an unscheduled inspection of CWAY’s water production facility. The inspection followed a viral social media post and complaints about the company’s water dispenser refill bottles.
LASCOPA said the visit formed part of its consumer protection responsibilities. The agency also assessed CWAY’s production, packaging, transportation and distribution processes.
Officials from the agency met with CWAY representatives before inspecting key sections of the facility. 
LASCOPA Examines CWAY Production Process
During the inspection, LASCOPA officials observed several stages of production. These included bottle filling, capping, labelling and preparations for distribution.
The officials also inspected plastic packaging materials that CWAY had set aside for disposal. CWAY explained that the discarded bottles undergo processing through a grinding machine. The company said it then sells the material to plastic industries for reuse.
Records presented during the inspection showed that about 1,000 bottles are discarded daily. However, LASCOPA advised the company to ensure all packaging materials remain clean and fit for use.
The agency’s Director of Scientific Investigation, Research and Development, Suluka Raheem, also made several recommendations. He advised CWAY to provide suitable handles for the bottles. According to him, this would reduce slippage and improve safe handling.
Agency Demands Stronger Bottle Safety Measures
Raheem also urged CWAY to establish a suitable shelf-life for its bottles. He said the company should withdraw bottles from circulation after the approved period. This should apply whether the bottles appear damaged or not.
The agency also recommended stronger training for distributors. The training should focus on proper handling and storage during transportation and distribution. LASCOPA particularly warned against exposing the products to direct sunlight during transportation.
Representing LASCOPA’s General Manager and CEO, Afolabi Solebo, Board Secretary and Head of Legal, Arinola Momoh-Ayokanmbi, urged CWAY to act on the recommendations. She also encouraged the company to adopt internationally recognised standards for transportation, storage and distribution.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers across Lagos. LASCOPA said it would continue monitoring products while working to strengthen public confidence in goods sold within the state.
Officials and management representatives from both LASCOPA and CWAY attended the inspection.

Scott Iguma vs CWAY
Meanwhile, social media activist and content creator Scott Iguma had raised concerns over the state of CWAY bottle, claiming it was too dirty. It also alleged that the water might be contaminated.
In a video which went viral, Scott had called out the water processing company. He said that it should be called a piggery and not a water factory.
Scott called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to investigate the factory.
