Afrobeats star Davido recently linked up with billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote in New York City. The pair met as the Dangote Group unveiled its billboard in the iconic Times Square. The moment highlighted Nigerian business and entertainment on a global stage.
Davido appeared particularly proud to stand alongside Dangote, his godfather. He also took on an unexpected role during their meeting.
Davido Turns Interviewer for Dangote
During the encounter, Davido switched from musician to interviewer. He asked Dangote why Nigerians and Africans should consider buying shares in his companies.
Dangote explained that investing in the businesses could help spread wealth across the continent.
“It is important because that is the only way to spread prosperity and wealth throughout Africa,” he said.
The billionaire also explained that the initiative would not stop with the refinery. He said the group planned to extend its share ownership strategy to other businesses. These include its fertiliser operations.

Dangote Reveals Bigger African Plan
Dangote stressed that the current move forms part of a broader plan to give Africans a stake in his businesses.
“This is not going to be the first and the last,” he said. “We will continue even with our fertiliser. By the time we finish listing, every single African will own part of our businesses.”
He added that the strategy would allow investors to benefit financially from the businesses.
“They will pull up cash,” Dangote said.
His comments underline his vision of expanding African participation in major businesses. They also highlight the role of local investment in spreading corporate wealth.
