A false report claiming that veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, had passed away after hospitals rejected him has been making the rounds on social media.
The post, which merged a picture of Ogogo and a caption “He’s finally gone. Rest well, Dad,” accompanied by crying and a broken red heart emoji, alleged that his daughter, Lima Taiwo, announced the death.
However, Lima Taiwo debunked the rumour via her Instagram account. She posted the fake claim with repeated bold red texts reading “This is false!!!” and stating clearly in her caption: “THIS IS FAKE… PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS.”

The death rumour appears to have twisted a real and serious situation the Taiwo family is currently facing.
The Announcement that Led to the Ogogo’s Death Rumour
A day earlier, daughters of the actor, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made emotional public appeals explaining that their 66-year-old father is down and battling stage-four cancer. Although the family has not publicly disclosed the specific type of cancer, they said hospitals treating him had indicated they could no longer continue chemotherapy because the disease had become acute. They added that several other hospitals contacted have declined to accept him for treatment.
The family emphasised that they are seeking urgent medical facilities that are willing to offer care, and are not asking for financial assistance, as Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) has been supporting them with that.
This is not the first major health battle the actor is facing. In 2004, Ogogo survived a severe chronic stomach ulcer after many years. He endured months of vomiting blood, could barely eat, lost significant weight, and faced a life-threatening ordeal before recovering.
A medical doctor later mentioned that saying that hospitals are “refusing” treatment can be misleading. He added that in advanced stage-four cases, care often shifts to palliative management focused on comfort when other curative options are exhausted.
As Lima Taiwo debunks Ogogo’s death rumour, the respected figure with over four decades and more than 300 films in York cinema remains alive.
