Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured another four-year term after winning the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after collating results from all 30 local government areas.
Adeleke emerges winner
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to secure victory. His closest opponent, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, received 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke defeated Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes after a closely contested election across the state. The final declaration followed the collation of results at the state collation centre in Osogbo. 
The process began early Sunday, August 16, after voters cast their ballots across Osun on Saturday, August 15.

How Adeleke built his lead
Adeleke secured decisive victories across several local government areas. He recorded a strong performance in his political strongholds, including Ede South and Ede North.
In Ede South, Adeleke polled 26,188 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 6,219 votes. Adeleke also dominated Ede North with 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283 votes.
The governor further won Osogbo, where he recorded 36,480 votes against the APC candidate’s 30,474 votes. He also secured victories in Ife North, Ife Central, Ife East, Iwo, Ila and Egbedore. Adeleke won Ayedaade and several other local government areas across the state.
APC records key victories
Oyebamiji also delivered strong performances in several local government areas. He defeated Adeleke in Ilesa East, polling 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280 votes. The APC candidate also won Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West and Irewole.
He further secured victories in Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda. In Obokun, Oyebamiji polled 16,120 votes, while Adeleke recorded 12,023 votes.
Oyebamiji also emerged ahead in Atakunmosa West, strengthening his performance in several parts of Osun.

Election, violence and voter turnout
The election took place amid concerns over electoral violence in Osun.
Data from the Osun Votes project documented 73 election-related violent incidents during the 12 months before the poll. The incidents reportedly caused 12 fatalities during the same period.
The project also reported that 78 percent of recorded incidents occurred between May and July 2026. Despite these concerns, stakeholders commended voters, election officials and security agencies for the electoral process.
Adeleke’s victory now gives him another four years to lead Osun State. His re-election also marks another significant chapter in the state’s competitive political landscape.

The singer who headed the Youth Mobilisation for Adeleke’s re-election campaign took time off his busy schedule and music tour to campaign for his uncle across Osun State.
Unfortunately, he could not vote nor enter the state as striction was placed on movement during the election period.
Despite not being on ground, the singer was being fed with updates from the electioneering process which he shared with his fans across the global.
