Recent comments by Nigerian music artist, Davido on X have added to growing political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election. His posts followed reports of a violent attack involving a party official. This has intensified debates around political intimidation, insecurity, and conduct during the election season.

Major party realignments involving Governor Ademola Adeleke have shaped the political background in Osun. He entered frontline politics in 2017 after the death of his brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke later serving as Senator for Osun West from 2017 to 2019. Ademola then became Governor of Osun State in November 2022.

Reports indicate he resigned from the PDP in November 2025 and moved to the Accord Party. He formally announced his defection in December 2025. He later emerged as the Accord Party governorship candidate after securing strong delegate support across the state’s local government areas.

The move repositioned the Accord Party as a major contender in the upcoming election. it also increased political competition across the state.

Davido later aligned publicly with the Accord Party and accepted the role of Head of Youth Mobilisation for the campaign. His involvement increased the campaign’s visibility among younger voters. It also drew more national attention to the unfolding political contest.

Tension escalated after reports emerged that armed men attacked Accord Party chairman in Osogbo Local Government, Asimiyu “Baba Isila” Isila, on June 3, 2026. The attack reportedly happened in the MDS area of Osogbo. Medical personnel later treated him at Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where doctors stabilised his condition.

The incident raised concerns about election-related violence, especially around party structures and campaign activities.

Reports also claimed that AMBO thugs led by Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as “Asiri Eniba,” shot at residents from Akoda through Oke-Fia in Osogbo.

Davido reacted on X shortly after the reports surfaced. He condemned political violence and called for restraint. He argued that political differences should never escalate into insecurity. He also insisted that voters should decide elections through ballots rather than violence.

The singer warned against actions that could worsen instability. He also questioned alleged attempts to weaken or remove the Accord Party from the ballot.

In another post, Davido criticised what he described as extreme politicking. He warned that continued escalation could cost lives and deepen insecurity.

The situation reflects deeper concerns around electoral violence, political intimidation, and weakening trust in democratic processes. The reports of attacks on political actors, combined with increasingly aggressive rhetoric on social media, have created a charged atmosphere ahead of the election.Party realignments have also added instability, with competing claims over legitimacy and political influence shaping the contest.

As the August 15 election approaches, the central concern remains whether the contest will be  peaceful and properly conducted amid rising tension and distrust among political actors.
