A routine security review recently led Zenith Bank to uncover unauthorised access to a limited amount of customer information. The affected data includes email addresses and phone numbers. According to the bank, the incident forms part of a wider global cyberattack that has targeted several international organisations across different sectors.

The development comes at a time when cyber threats continue to pose significant challenges to businesses and financial institutions around the world. As cybercriminals adopt more sophisticated methods, organisations increasingly invest in stronger security measures to protect sensitive customer information and maintain trust.

Zenith Bank stated that it immediately activated its incident response protocols and launched cybersecurity and remediation measures after discovering the breach. The bank said its teams are actively investigating the incident and taking steps to strengthen security. The financial institution assured customers that its banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational. It also stressed that there is no disruption to its services and that customers can continue to carry out transactions through its various platforms without interruption.

As a precaution, Zenith Bank advised customers to remain alert to phishing emails, text messages, and phone calls from fraudsters. The bank urged customers not to share their passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), or any other security credentials with anyone. It also encouraged customers to verify any suspicious communication that appears to come from the bank.

Zenith Bank reaffirmed its commitment to protecting customer information and maintaining strong cybersecurity standards. The bank also thanked customers for their continued trust and confidence as it works to address the incident, enhance security measures, and strengthen its systems against evolving cyber threats.
