Segilola (The Villain) Premiere Celebrates the Beauty of Yoruba Culture

It’s culture galore all the way.

The premiere of Segilola (The Villain) turned into a vibrant celebration of Yoruba culture and tradition as guests gathered for an evening filled with music, dance, and cultural pride. Notable Nollywood stars, including Afeez Oyetoro (Saka), Lanre Hassan, Fausat Balogun, Fathia Williams, and Femi Branch, were in attendance. They joined other guests to witness the unveiling of the highly anticipated movie.

Speaking at the premiere, producer, writer, and lead actress Funmilayo Omikunle explained that Segilola (The Villain) is deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition. She added that it was intentionally created to appreciate and promote the richness of Yoruba heritage through storytelling.

“Segilola is a film that contains pure culture. Let it be that when the little ones are watching culture, they are watching real culture. Segilola is just like that,” she said.

In the true spirit of the Yoruba culture, the event featured energetic bata and talking drum performances that thrilled attendees throughout the evening. Dancers dressed elegantly in traditional aso oke fabric added colour and authenticity to the celebration. They created an atmosphere that reflected the beauty of Yoruba customs.

Guests were also treated to captivating Ewi chants delivered by an Elewi. Her sonorous voice echoed the traditional Yoruba style of praising and storytelling through poetic eulogies.

The cultural display extended to the audience. Many attendees arrived dressed in traditional Yoruba attire. There were majestic agbadas, iro, and buba, which made the premiere a proud celebration of identity, heritage, and African tradition.

Fmdestiny Productions produced the movie while filmmaker Muhydeen S. Ayinde directed it. The movie tells a gripping story of revenge, power, and the struggle for peace within a community. It follows Segilola, a strong and determined woman whose quest for vengeance against a rich and powerful man threatens to shake everything around her.

The production features industry titans such as: Ibrahim Chatta, Odunlade Adekola, Bimbo Akintola, Fathia Balogun, Abolore Akande (9ice), Peter Fatomilola, and many others.
