On April 20, 2026, Captain Jamil Mohammed Abubakar became Managing Director of Infrastructure & Logistics at the Dangote Group.
Aliko Dangote, the visionary builder of a $33 billion empire, elevated his son-in-law to a major position a few weeks after elevating his daughters to top positions in the company.
Abubakar will now be in charge of the company’s ports trade-enabling infrastructure platform and broader logistics network. He reports directly to Dangote himself.
This elevation further underscores Dangote’s calculated approach to blending professional expertise, familial trust, and long-term strategic continuity to keep the empire thriving.

Who Is Jamil Mohammed Abubakar?
Jamil Mohammed Abubakar was born on January 29, 1986, in Gusau, Nigeria. He was born into a prominent family with deep roots in public service and security. His father is Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, a former Inspector General of Police.
Abubakar’s early education started in Nigeria before he moved to the United Kingdom. He attended Home Science Association Primary School in Ikoyi, Lagos, followed by Nigeria Military School in Zaria (1997–2003). He completed a program in Business Information Technology at Enfield College London (2005), followed by a degree in Computing Information Systems and Multimedia from Kingston University London in 2009.
He chose to build a career in commercial aviation rather than pure technology. Abubakar has over 14 years of experience working with several Nigerian airlines. He has worked with IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle, and XE Jets.
Abubakar also rose to the role of Chief Pilot at both Azman Air and NG Eagle, earning the title “Captain Jamil” through his hands-on operational expertise in flight safety, crew management, and aviation governance.
Beyond the cockpit, reports describe him as having exposure to governance and investment matters, including roles linked to public-sector or Dangote-adjacent organizations. He has also been noted for philanthropic interests and a relatively modest personal lifestyle despite his connections, though his 2018 wedding to Fatima Dangote thrust him firmly into the spotlight.
Marriage to Fatima Dangote
Abubakar married Fatima Dangote (Aliko Dangote’s youngest daughter from his second marriage) in 2018. Their union was a high-society affair. They had ceremonies in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos that drew an extraordinary guest list. The event was widely covered as a mix of business royalty and political influence. His marriage to Fatima has produced a low-profile family life, with Jamil occasionally noted for personal hobbies like traveling, jet skiing, and skydiving.
For the Dangote Group, logistics and infrastructure are both a big challenge and a huge opportunity. The company needs fast, reliable ports and supply chains to move raw materials. It also needs to deliver products like petrol from its giant 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, cement, and fertilizer across Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
Abubakar’s experience as a pilot brings useful skills. His discipline as a chief pilot, his experience in handling regulations, safety rules, and managing complex operations come in handy.
For many, the appointment is more practical than being family favoritism. In Nigeria’s tough business environment, having a trusted insider can reduce risks and get things done.
With this appointment, Abubakar is expected to improve efficiency, explore new infrastructure projects, and support the group’s expansion across Africa.
