While Yul Edochie Tweets About Respect, Here Are 4 Times May Edochie Proved Her Independence

Yul Edochie tweeted, “Men stop tolerating nonsense in the name of marriage or relationship. If your wife or girlfriend doesn’t respect you, dump her immediately and get someone who respects you. Your respect as a man is non-negotiable.”

While the actor is speaking about respect and leadership in the family unit, it is quite ironic because there has been some “disrespect” arising from the public friction between his traditional views and the actions of his ex-wife, May.

Here are four moments where Yul Edochie has experienced the “disrespect” he’s calling out:

1. “May God judge you both”

In April 2022, Yul Edochie announced the birth of his son with Judy Austin and his marriage to her. His first wife of 17 years, who has four children with him, May Edochie, clapped back to show her disapproval. She commented, “May God judge you both,” on Yul’s Instagram post. For someone who often advocates for the traditional authority of a husband in marriage, the clapback by May was a blow to him.

2. Social Media “Snubs” and Unfollowing

After the announcement of the new child, May unfollowed Yul on Instagram. Yul has since posted videos or captions on Facebook and Instagram suggesting that a wife should support her husband regardless of public opinion. However, May has moved on with her life, even going on to sue him and his new wife.

3. May Suing Him and Winning

In 2023, May Edochie sued her husband, Yul Edochie, and his second wife, Judy Austin, for adultery and initiated divorce proceedings. She sought ₦100 million in damages for their alleged affair and unauthorized polygamous union, which she argues violates the Marriage Act of 1970. As of early 2026, she has reportedly won significant legal victories, including custody of their children, control of their home, and a restraining order against Yul regarding the premises.

4. Brand Deals

He has constantly felt disrespected by May as she has continuously proven able to live independently of the Edochie brand name, landing major deals with brands and acting in movies. Her personal brand has increased in popularity and reach, while he has become increasingly infamous.
