An American social media influencer, Ashly Robinson, died on April 9 following an alleged suicide attempt.
The 31-year-old, popularly known online as Ashlee Jenae, was celebrating her birthday and her fresh engagement in Zanzibar, Tanzania. She was there on vacation with her 45-year-old fiancé, Joseph Isaac “Joe” McCann. While in Zanzibar, they stayed at the luxury Zuri Zanzibar Hotel & Resort.
Reuters reports that after an argument between the couple, the hotel staff separated them into different rooms. Later, she was found unconscious in her room. Reports say she was hanging from a door or wardrobe with a belt or cloth. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died from what medical officials stated was cerebral hypoxia caused by strangulation or suffocation.

The Tanzanian police have stated that they are treating it as a possible suicide. Presently, they have told the BBC that they are only questioning McCann as a witness and not as a suspect. McCann’s passport has been withheld while they await full medical and forensic reports.
Although Ashly’s family is not buying the suicide story, there have been no charges filed yet.
According to the New York Post, they say Ashly was elated and excited about the proposal and the trip. They added that she called them regarding the fight but showed no signs of wanting to end her life.
They are now demanding answers, surveillance footage, and a thorough investigation.
Before their engagement, the New York Post reports that the duo had been dating for one year. She documented her vacation online until she was noticed to have stopped posting on April 8. Thousands of fans have since left tributes on her social media pages.
