His Majesty Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, the Arujale-Ojima of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State, has graduated from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).

The 23-year-old monarch is widely recognised as Yorubaland’s youngest traditional ruler. He received his Political Science degree seven years after ascending the throne.

Oba Akinghare II became king in 2019 at just 16, after his father, the late Oba Akinghare I, died. As the only male child, tradition in Okeluse required that the first son automatically succeed to the throne. The young prince, who was still in secondary school, stepped into royal responsibility while continuing his education.

In May, after concluding his final project defense at the College of Social and Management Sciences, the young monarch wrote:

“Balancing the responsibilities of the throne with academics has not been an easy journey, but Eledumare has been faithful through it all. Ruling and schooling required sacrifice, discipline, and resilience, and I am grateful that this chapter is gradually coming to an end. My sincere appreciation to my family, chiefs, friends, and everyone who stood by me throughout this journey.”

The convocation celebration drew an impressive gathering of high-ranking traditional rulers.

Among those present were the Ooni of Ife, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, the Olowo of Owo, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, the Elemure of Emure, the Olupenmen of Upenmen, and the Owa of Ayegbaju, alongside other distinguished royal fathers.

Their presence turned the graduation ceremony of Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II into a remarkable display of solidarity, unity, and mutual respect among Yoruba traditional institutions.

The reception that followed was filled with heartfelt congratulations, joyful moments, and pride for Okeluse Kingdom.
