Nigerian Nepo Babies: 7 Celebs With Very Rich Parents

In the Age of Information, news media faces both unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges.

The question of whether one is a Nepo baby or a Lapo baby was highly debated this year. “Nepo” is short for nepotism and simply means receiving favouritism from family members, which leads to jobs, privileges, and opportunities.

Although not all ‘Nepo babies’ have supportive parents, having rich parents provides a high-value education, connections, or a financial buffer to start a business or kick-start a career. These are luxuries many people cannot boast of. Well, except for the seven people below:

  1. Dimma Umeh

This popular YouTuber and content creator is a pioneer in the beauty and lifestyle content creator game. But do you know her father, Victor Umeh, is the senator representing the Anambra Senatorial District? He has been a politician since 1998, serving as the chairman of the APC and APGA at various times. Though her father wasn’t as supportive when she started, he sponsored her master’s degree at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, but she returned to Nigeria to pursue her career in content creation, despite her father’s reluctance.

  1. Adenike Adeleke

She often says she lives for a living, and why wouldn’t she? This content creator is the daughter of the current Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, which translates to a life of privilege, which can be gleaned from her vlogs on social media. She is also related to the CEO of Pacific Holdings and Pro Chancellor of Adeleke University, Adedeji Adeleke.

  1. DJ Cuppy

DJ and philanthropist Florence ‘DJ Cuppy’ Otedola is the daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola. She is constantly booked and busy, DJing for clubs and events all over the world. She also releases music. When your father is Femi Otedola, you don’t have to worry about your music ‘blowing up’; you can do it for the fun of it.

4. L.A.X.

Damilola Afolabi, known as L.A.X, is a singer and songwriter who was born into affluence and doesn’t have a ‘rags to riches’ story. He is the son of Nigerian business magnate Taiwo Afolabi, founder of SIFAX Group.

5. Kiddwaya

Kiddwaya is an influencer and businessman who shot to the limelight when he was a contestant on Big Brother Naija. Many people wondered why he was on the show since he is the son of billionaire businessman Terry Waya. Kiddwaya spent most of his life in the UK before coming to Nigeria for the show. He displays his lavish wealth and lifestyle on social media.

6. Naeto C

This rapper is from an affluent family. He is the son of former Nigerian Minister of Aviation Kema Chikwe, and, as we have established, being a politician’s child in Nigeria definitely makes one a ‘nepo baby’ because of access not only to wealth but also to connections.

7. Davido

This list would be incomplete without the most hard-working ‘Nepo baby’, Davido. This Grammy-nominated artist has been regarded by many as one of the greatest Nigerian artists of all time. He works pretty hard for someone whose father is very wealthy, but he argues, as most ‘Nepo babies’ do, that their success is not solely due to their family.

While ‘Nepo babies’ have to work hard just like the rest of us, they have their foot in the door and a shoulder to stand on, and that’s one of the keys to success.
