Most people would rather ‘off‘ themselves than publicly admit to having the smallest penis in the world, yet Michael Phillips chose to do exactly that.

The 38-year-old art dealer from North Carolina has spoken openly about living with what he believes may be the world’s smallest penis, a diagnosed micropenis measuring just 0.38 inches.

To put it in context, the average erect penis length in the UK, based on clinical studies, is approximately 13.12 cm to 13.13 cm (roughly 5.16–5.17 inches).

Michael recently shared his story and spoke about the emotional, social, and practical challenges the condition has caused throughout his life.

“I Kept It Secret for Years”

A micropenis is a recognised medical condition in which the penis is significantly smaller than average. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it is usually caused by a foetal testosterone deficiency during development.

Growing up, however, Michael did not realise it was a medical issue.

“I thought I was a late bloomer,” he explained. “Maybe one day it will be normal size. But it never happened.”

Michael said he kept his condition to himself throughout his teenage years and twenties. Although he had friends, he avoided dating and relationships.

He also shared that he was adopted and felt unable to raise the issue with family members. As a result, he faced his struggles alone.

Michael explained that the condition affects more than just his romantic life. It also impacts his day-to-day routine, like his ability to use the restroom.

Limited Treatment Options

Michael was only formally diagnosed in 2025 after visiting a doctor. He now encourages early diagnosis for young people who may be experiencing similar concerns.

He explained that most available procedures do not significantly increase size. Some options include liposuction around the pubic area or cutting a ligament to allow the penis to hang slightly lower.

However, even then, the maximum gain is usually around one to one and a half inches.

Beyond the shock factor, Michael says his goal is awareness. He believes society’s obsession with size creates unrealistic standards and insecurity for many men.

To the small percentage of men living with a micropenis, Michael offers one simple piece of advice: talk about it.

“Find a place where you can talk about it freely,” he said. “Even if it’s just one-on-one with somebody. There’s no reason why you can’t talk about it.”

He hopes that by speaking openly, fewer people will grow up feeling isolated or ashamed of a medical condition they did not choose.
