He continued by saying that the time when parents told their children whom to marry had passed. Mayorkun noted that parents did things differently in the past. He said men could now make their own decisions without their parents forcing them to do things.

“I think we have passed that era of parents telling you who to marry, it’s like you saying your child can’t marry a muslim partner, this is not 1800.”

Mayorkun also explained that his mother had no problem with any woman he decided to marry. He described her as someone who did not force things on him or try to control his decisions. He said his mother would gladly accept any woman he brought home, regardless of her race.

“I can get married to a Somalian if that’s who I like and my mum is not a picky type, if I decide to marry a somalian my mom will like her”

Mayorkun also spoke about a conversation he had with one of his big brothers in his struggle to find the right woman to marry. His brother asked him when he last spoke to a lady in broad daylight.

The artist responded that he could not remember the last time he spoke to a lady in broad daylight. He also questioned what responsible woman would be out late in the night. He said he could not marry that kind of woman.
