If you’ve been online, videos of Maduka Okoye have been everywhere after the friendly match the Nigerian team played with Portugal.
When Tems was interviewed at the 2026 BET Awards red carpet, she was asked if she knew Maduka personally, to which she replied that she didn’t. She was also asked if there were any romantic inclinations towards him and if she would shoot her shot at him. 
‘Shoot? We don’t do that here. We are friends; we friend each other, and we’re family. No shit over here. We are brothers and sisters.”
German-Nigerian professional football player Maduka Emilio Okoye (26) is a goalie for Serie A team Udinese, and he also plays for the Nigerian national team.
Tems (31), on the other hand, is an internationally renowned, multiple Grammy Award-winning artist who recently sang at the opening of the Obama Presidential Library. The conversation that led to this question was about how she was representing African and Nigerian music and Nigeria as a whole; indeed, both have been excellent representatives of African culture and Nigerian excellence.
Tems has always been private about her love life and relationships; though she has been linked to several famous artists like British-Nigerian rapper Dave, she has no publicly confirmed relationship and has even discussed how guarded she is when it comes to love and relationships.
Maduka on the other hand is in an on-and-off relationship with Dutch model and influencer Jelicia Westhoff (32). They have a son, Isaiah Emil Jr Okoye, born in January 2023. He has also recently mentioned rejecting a daughter of a Nigerian billionaire who contacted him through social media.
It’s no wonder that the presenters want to link these two shining and beautiful individuals from Nigeria, but Tems has made it known that she is not a shot-shooter. If Maduka Okoye is interested, they have to start with friendship.
