Kunle Afolayan sets the stage for Nigerian films and series in 2026, with the release of the Aníkulápó trailer set to be shown on Netflix starting January 30.
In 2022, Kunle Afolayan first released the original movie, which narrated the story of Saro, a man seeking better opportunities, who ultimately faces an untimely death due to an affair with the king’s wife. It played on love and betrayal. Due to the movie’s nationwide success, in 2024 it was developed into a Netflix series, Aníkulápó: Rise of the Spectre.
The series, set to be released on January 30, is about survival, love, loyalty, and everything in between being tested.
“The Ghoul Awakens,” a Kunle Afolayan series. Once power is awakened, it demands a price. From Oyo to foreign lands, love is tested, and loyalties are shaken. This season, survival is the real crown, and everything you think you know will be questioned,” the producer wrote in an X (formerly known as Twitter) post.

This new series brings back to our screens popular actors in previous seasons like Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Eyiyemi Afolayan, and others who made it worth watching.
However, new actors like Teniola Aladese, former Big Brother Naija star Okusaga Adeoluwa, popularly known as Saga, Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), Ghanaian actress Fella Makafui, and veteran actors Antar Laniyan and Saidi Balogun are a part of this new series.
The trailer has fans of Aníkulápó excited and looking forward to watching it upon release.
