The family life of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has increasingly drawn public attention over the years, not just because of his position as a traditional ruler but because of how moments within his household often become part of cultural conversations.

Like many traditional rulers, his personal and royal life has remained under public attention, and as a result, some aspects of his family, especially his children, have been publicly acknowledged at different points over the years.

While not every part of the royal household is openly discussed, certain family milestones have naturally attracted public interest because of the symbolism attached to the throne of Ile-Ife.

One of the most publicly known children is Prince Tadenikawo Ogunwusi, born from his previous marriage with Queen Naomi Silekunola. He was named after the 49th Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Tadenikawo Aderemi, and is often referred to as the ‘foundation heir’. His birth was viewed by many as a continuation of the Ife royal lineage. Over the years, he has occasionally appeared in limited public settings connected to royal family events.

The Ooni of Ife is also known to have other children from earlier relationships before and during his reign, although not all of them are publicly visible or frequently discussed. This is not unusual within royal families, where certain aspects of family life are intentionally kept private.

Princess Adeola Ogunwusi is known as the first and only daughter of the Ooni. She was born before her father’s ascension to the throne and is the daughter of the monarch and Omolara Olatubosun. The princess has maintained a quiet public profile over the years. She is also recognised for her academic achievements, having completed her master’s degree at University College London in 2016.

Another of his children is Prince Ademakinwa, born to the Ooni and his fourth wife, Olori Folashade Ashley Ogunwusi. He is culturally described as a double crown prince because of his connection to two royal lineages, the Ooni Adagba Royal Compound of the Lafogido Ruling House and the Ooni Agbedegbede Royal Compound of the Giesi Ruling House.

On May 14, the Ooni of Ife announced the arrival of his twin princes on his X (formerly Twitter) page. The twins are the first children from the marriage between the monarch and his wife, Olori Mariam Ajibola, making the moment particularly significant within the current royal household.

Ooni’s children continue to attract attention because of what the throne represents within Yoruba culture and history. Beyond titles and royal identity, these children are often seen as symbols of continuity, heritage, and the future of the House of Oduduwa.
