If you live in South Africa, keep a close eye on this product and ensure you are not giving it to your child.
The South African Department of Health has advised parents and carers to stop using affected Nestlé NAN products, specifically the Special Pro HA Infant Formula (batch number 51660742F3, best before 15 December 2026), which is designed for infants who are allergic to cow’s milk.

Why The Recall?
The recall follows the detection of cereulide, a toxin from Bacillus cereus, posing a food safety risk, traced back to a manufacturing plant in Germany. South Africa reportedly received only this specific batch.
Nestle, the largest makers of food and beverage in the world, also issued a recall of this particular batch in 50 countries. South Africa and Egypt were the only African countries affected.
“The contamination of the product is traced back to the manufacturing plant in Germany, which produces the products for countries, including South Africa,” the Health Department said.
Although the impacted goods have not been linked to any illnesses, authorities asked parents to watch for symptoms like severe vomiting, diarrhoea, or unusual lethargy.
Also, regardless of the existence of symptoms, parents are urged to speak with medical professionals.
Consumers should check product packaging for the batch number and return any recalled products for a full refund.

The South Africa Department of Health also continues to advocate for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life as the best feeding practice, emphasising its importance in nutrition and disease protection for young children, and reassures the public that there is no need for panic regarding this recall.
