It began as an emotional public announcement by popular skit maker and Twitch streamer Carter Efe about a year-long separation. But it has quickly escalated into a messy exchange of conflicting allegations and counterclaims that have split Nigerian social media right down the middle.
‘You Left Me for Good Five Months’ Carter Efe Shares His Story
The controversy surfaced after Carter Efe took to Instagram and X in early January to announce the end of his relationship with his baby mama, Emmanuella.
He framed it as a story of struggle and separation with two years of emotional distress, financial hardship, creative drought, and a blocked phone number for five months. 
According to him, all these led to a “rebirth” once he found success streaming on Twitch and collaborating with stars like DDG and Davido.
In a series of dramatic Instagram Story slides, Carter detailed his woes, claiming the breakup left him broken and blocked.
“This lady has frustrated my whole life to the extent I trend every day for beating a lady… For good two years, I lost everything,” he wrote.
He also added that relocating from the situation helped him “get happy and active again.”
He also threw in a jab, alleging opportunism: “You left me for good 5 months only to come and see that I’m the biggest streamer in Africa … Funny bitch.”

Then Came the Counter Stories and Allegations from Nigerians to Carter Efe
Of course, no internet saga stays one-sided for long. Shortly after, popular influencer JoJo of Lele, publicly challenged Carter’s narrative.
She accused him of repeated domestic abuse, alleging that Emmanuella was forced out of their home more than once.
Things heated up further when activist VeryDarkMan shared a clip of Emmanuella appearing emotionally distressed with swollen eyes.
In his caption, he urged her to speak for herself, reminding followers that he had previously called Carter Efe a “woman beater”.
Some viewers saw her appearance as a likely emotional turmoil or allergy, while others linked it to confirmations of alleged abuse.

‘We were literally together three days ago, and we had sex.’ Emmanuella Shares Her Story
Then, Emmanuella shared her response in a heartfelt Instagram video. She disputed Carter’s version of events, saying they had been together as recently as three days before his public posts.
She stressed they share a child, Charis, and contradicted the idea that she was absent during his struggles.
Emmanuella also claimed Carter controlled her life, blocking her female friends, stifling her acting ambitions, and even telling her she couldn’t work at the hospital for fear she’d “sleep with the doctors.”
The most explosive part came when she alleged Carter Efe threatened her ahead of his viral posts, warning he would label her a prostitute and erase her social presence because he “gave her a platform.”
She also shared in a follow-up post that he has the logins to her Snapchat, Instagram, and Email accounts. She worries he might stop her from posting by logging her out.

Closing Thoughts
As of now, Carter Efe has not directly addressed Emmanuella’s rebuttal or the graphic videos shared online. He was only seen making sarcastic remarks about her account and VDM’s post during a Twitch livestream earlier today.
Meanwhile, Nigerians online have turned the controversy into a full-blown debate on which side of the controversy is right and whether or not the entire saga is only a publicity stunt. Others have turned it into a meme fest, and some are even playing the “I told you so” card.
