Senator Dino Melaye has remained one of Nigeria’s most colourful public figures, and his recent interview with Kaa Truths offered another glimpse into his life.
He discussed his childhood, wealth, political career, car collection and plans for a massive auto museum in Abuja.
Melaye said his passion for automobiles began in his twenties and has continued for decades. He now claims to own more than 200 cars, a collection that has attracted both admiration and criticism. 
He is also developing a 40-hectare auto museum in Abuja, which he describes as Africa’s first facility of its kind.
“This is not just a collection of cars. It’s a dream of over 30 years.”
The planned facility will reportedly feature a racetrack, hotel, golf course and a Disney-inspired entertainment section.
On Wealth and His Lavish Lifestyle
Melaye offered a philosophical explanation when asked about his flamboyant lifestyle.
“The difference between richness and wealth is that when you are rich, you are working for money. But when you are wealthy, money works for you.”
He attributed his financial success to hard work, perseverance and what he described as divine guidance.
Melaye also denied relying on government contracts to build his wealth.
He said he supports orphans, widows and students through scholarships but prefers to keep such efforts private.
For him, charity should remain between an individual and God rather than become a public performance.
He also defended his visible lifestyle as a reflection of his achievements and gratitude.
Melaye often references his humble beginnings when discussing his wealth.
He described himself as the first member of his family to appear in a newspaper, highlighting how far he has come.
He also stressed the importance of having what he called a “second address.”
By this, he means maintaining businesses and income streams outside political office.

His Views on Politics and Public Service
Melaye said he entered politics because he considered public service a calling.
He criticised politicians who treat political positions as businesses.
“Because people see it as a business, everybody is dying and fighting to go to the National Assembly.”
He believes politicians should prioritise citizens rather than personal financial interests.
He also framed public service as a moral responsibility.
“Every Nigerian must decide to either walk in the light of creative altruism or perish in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”
His comments reflect his broader argument that political leadership should serve society.
Religion, Government and His Auto Museum
Melaye also addressed the relationship between religion and government.
He opposed government funding for religious pilgrimages and said such money could serve the public better.
He suggested investing those resources in roads, hospitals and industrial development instead.
Melaye described his spirituality as personal and independent of conventional political expectations.
Meanwhile, his planned auto museum remains one of his most ambitious projects.
The 40-hectare development could combine automobiles, hospitality, entertainment and recreation.
For Melaye, however, the project represents more than luxury.
It reflects a decades-long passion for cars and a desire to create something he believes will leave a lasting legacy.
