Belusochim Ugochukwu left Nigeria for the United States at the age of 14 in 2024. He arrived in the US with a suitcase and an obsession with machine learning. Now, at only 16 years, he is working on Computer Vision and Robotics at Apple.
He shared the story of how he got there in a recent post on X which has been making rounds on social media.
Belusochim Ugochukwu’s Early Foundations
Belusochim has always been a smart boy with achievements that revealed his intellectual alertness. His journey started quite early as he competed in the Math and Physics Olympiad at the age of 11. He has excelled in Rubik’s Cube competitions, recording a personal best of 18 seconds. 
The loss of his grandmother to an undiagnosed illness increased his focus and made him deeply interested in artificial intelligence.
Losing his grandmother promoted a desire to use technology for meaningful impact especially in health and human capability.
He has also spent time in the Y Combinator ecosystem, meeting the brightest minds in technology and start-ups.

Belusochim Ugochukwu’s Swift Academic Path
Belusochim Ugochukwu graduated high school and began college at 15 instead of the usual age of 16-18. While in school, he pursued ambitious projects, including:
- A research on diffusion models for crystal generation which was inspired by applications in drug discovery.
- Prototyping robotic wheelchairs designed to assist people with disabilities.
- Work on an EdTech startup called OpenClaw for Students
His technical efforts in these areas shows how he is determined to solve real-world problems with his technical skills.

Belusochim Ugochukwu’s Work in Apple
In May 2026, Ugochukwu joined Apple’s Environment and Supply Chain Innovation (ESCI) organisation. Apple’s ESCI organisation is a specialised global operations group saddled with the responsibility of driving environmental sustainability, decarbonization goals, and safe design and manufacturing practices in Apple.
Ugochukwu contributes to Computer Vision and Robotics in Apple’s ESCI. He has also spent time in the Y Combinator ecosystem where he engaged with some of the brightest minds in technology and start-ups. All of these have given him more exposure to an environment that aligns with his long-term vision of “building companies that expand what humanity can do with AI.”
