He Holds Three Citizenships
Most Nigerians know Okoye as a German-born Super Eagles goalkeeper. He was born in Düsseldorf to a Nigerian father and a German mother of French heritage. This gives him eligibility for Nigerian, German, and French citizenship.
He Attended the Bayer Leverkusen Academy
Many Super Eagles stars started their football journeys on local pitches before making the move abroad. Okoye’s path was different.
He joined Bayer Leverkusen’s academy at just 10 years old and spent seven years developing inside one of Germany’s most respected football systems. Those years matter because academies shape more than just football ability; they shape discipline, decision-making, and professionalism.
By the time he started his senior career, he had already spent most of his childhood inside an elite European football environment.
He Is Widely Reported to Be Related to P-Square
Not many people expect a connection between the Super Eagles and one of Africa’s biggest music groups. Yet, Okoye is widely reported to be a cousin of Peter, Paul, and Jude Okoye. Although it is not confirmed that they are blood-related, he is often referred to as “lil bro” by Paul and Jude.

A Betting-Related Fraud Investigation
For a period, it looked like football might stop being the main conversation around Okoye.
The goalkeeper became linked to an investigation involving suspicious betting fraud connected to a match in Italy. The situation raised serious questions and threatened to overshadow his performances on the pitch. During the investigation, he was sidelined for six matches at the start of the Italian Serie A season.
He was later cleared of any wrongdoing when an Italian court dropped the investigation in May.
His Relationship with Jelicia Westhoff
Last year, Okoye found himself in the news for reasons unrelated to football.
His former partner, Dutch model Jelicia Westhoff, announced the end of their relationship in a public social media post. Hours later, she deleted the post and issued an apology for acting out of character. She stated they had settled their differences and were looking forward to being a happy family. The couple shares a son together.
His Height
At 198 centimeters, or roughly 6 feet 6 inches, Okoye is taller than the average professional goalkeeper.
