The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into a state of shock following reports concerning the death of popular actor and model Alex Ekubo. According to the unverified claims, the 40-year-old actor passed away in a Lagos hospital after a quiet but intense battle with alleged stage 4 Metastic Kidney cancer.
He has been absent from social media and hasn’t posted since 2024.
Ekubo first broke into the limelight as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest, a platform that launched his career as a top-tier model and screen sensation. He solidified his status as a superstar with his role in the hit movie Weekend Getaway in 2012, and since then, he has become one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood. He was known for his wit, charm, and versatility, he has successfully navigated both high-stakes dramas and light-hearted romantic comedies. 
His family have confirmed his death and asked for prayers and privacy.
